Skin aging is a natural and visible part of human aging, which manifests itself differently in different individuals and organs. Unlike other organs, the skin shows visible signs of aging, including changes in its structure and function. This process is the result of both internal (genetic, hormonal) and external factors (exposure to sunlight, pollutants). The effects of aging on the skin include wrinkles, loss of elasticity and changes in texture and color, especially in sun-exposed areas. Skin aging is due to the loss of key elements such as collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), leading to the appearance of wrinkles and sagging. Dermatological research has focused its efforts on reversing or minimizing these signs of aging with treatments ranging from creams to more invasive procedures.

In addition, facial aging is influenced by factors such as gravity, muscle activity and changes in fat distribution and bone support. Although aging is a natural process, it is associated with various skin health problems. In the context of "successful aging," which focuses on health and active participation in life, preventive aesthetic dermatology plays an important role. It aims not only to improve the appearance of the skin, but also to treat and prevent skin problems, including skin cancer. Anti-aging treatments aim to achieve healthy and resilient skin, and their choice depends on various individual factors. Anti-aging therapy is a continuous process that combines several methods and takes into account everything from lifestyle to the overall health of the individual.

As for the skin, it has a natural barrier that protects it from dehydration, infections, allergens, irritants, free radicals and radiation. Daily skin care can help maintain this healthy barrier, improving regeneration, elasticity and smoothness. To prevent the formation of wrinkles, it is important to stop the degradation of collagen and elastin, the proteins that give skin its firmness and elasticity. Although no technology has yet been developed to deliver these compounds directly to the skin, some products promote their natural synthesis. Another way to prevent the formation of wrinkles is to reduce inflammation. Topical or systemic antioxidants can help reduce inflammation, but should be used in combination with sunscreens and retinoids for best results.

Regarding anti-aging creams, they usually contain two main types of ingredients: antioxidants and cell regulators. Antioxidants, such as vitamins C, B3 and E, reduce the breakdown of collagen, the protein that gives skin its firmness. They do this by neutralizing free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage cells. Cell regulators, such as retinols, peptides and growth factors, stimulate the production of new collagen.
